Panchkula: The Panchkula police have arrested a 24-year-old man and recovered 256 grams of heroin valued at over ₹50 lakh from his possession near the Mattewali flyover on the Panchkula-Yamunanagar highway.The accused has been identified as Mohit Kumar, a resident of Shyamtu village in Panchkula district. Acting on a tip-off received on Sept 17, a police team raided the location and apprehended Kumar along with the contraband.According to police commissioner Pankaj Nain, preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused procured the drug from Amritsar. He was planning to retail the contraband in small 1-gram sachets priced at ₹2,500 each across Panchkula, Dhakoli, Zirakpur, and neighbouring areas.Police produced the accused in court and secured a five-day police remand. DCP crime and traffic Amrinder Singh stated that officers will interrogate Kumar during the remand period to trace the primary supplier in Amritsar and map the full distribution network.
