Yogi to open dist’s first 6-lane flyover on Thurs

Gorakhpur: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate Gorakhpur’s first six-lane flyover on the TP Nagar–Padleganj stretch on Thursday, marking a major milestone in the city’s urban infrastructure and traffic management efforts.Built at a cost of over Rs 429 crore, the 2.658-km-long flyover is among the chief minister’s flagship projects aimed at improving road connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the city. The inauguration is scheduled for 10 am.According to Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam general manager Mithilesh Kumar, construction of the flyover connecting TP Nagar, Deoria Bypass and Padleganj is complete. An additional four-lane link has been developed to connect the structure with the Deoria Bypass road. The Nausad–TP Nagar–Padleganj corridor serves as a key gateway for traffic entering Gorakhpur from Lucknow, Varanasi and Prayagraj via NH-28. The route further connects Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Nepal, Deoria, Kushinagar and Bihar. Heavy traffic movement, dense residential settlements, commercial establishments and major landmarks along thecorridor have long resulted in congestion and frequent traffic snarls.Officials said the six-lane flyover was conceived after the chief minister reviewed growing traffic pressure on the stretch and directed authorities to develop a long-term solution. Besides the elevated corridor, a four-lane leaf connection has been constructed to ensure seamless movement towards the Deoria Bypass.District magistrate Deepak Meena said the flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel time and provide relief from chronic traffic jams for commuters and visitors. The project was launched in Feb 2023 and completed in Jun 2026.
