Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration celebrated the state-level 12th International Day of Yoga on Sunday, with Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria leading the primary event at Sector 17. Addressing the gathering, Kataria urged citizens to integrate yoga into their daily routines, stating that yoga “is not just about physical exercise but a way of life that helps keep the body healthy, the mind calm and life balanced.”The event aligned with the national celebrations where Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the country from Red Road, Kolkata. Speaking on this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the PM described yoga as a unifying global movement, noting that “Yoga connects everyone, Yoga brings everyone together,” while emphasising its role in maintaining lifelong energy and health.During the city-level gathering, Kataria highlighted local initiatives designed to expand access to traditional wellness practices. He discussed the administration’s “Yoga 365” campaign, which aims to convert the discipline into a year-round habit rather than a single-day observance. He also pointed to ongoing efforts to upgrade regional Ayush-based healthcare systems through integrated medical facilities, mobile clinics, and targeted wellness programs across various age demographics. The ceremony concluded with the felicitation of local talent and community organisers. The administrator honoured young national and international Yogasana achievers Anushka Sharma, Abhay Mishra, and Dev for their performance milestones. Additionally, representatives from 14 local institutions were recognised alongside voluntary groups, trainers, and the Ayush department for their roles in promoting the practice throughout Chandigarh.
