Varanasi: The two-day Women’s Beach Handball Competition, organised under the aegis of the UP Adventure Sports Club, kicked off on Tuesday with exciting matches on the opening day.In the inaugural match, Vikas Club edged past Lal Bahadur Shastri Club with a close 10-8 victory. The contest remained evenly poised at 4-4 at half time, but Vikas Club gained the upper hand in the second half. National player Suramya Pathak sealed the win with a crucial free-throw goal just four minutes before the final whistle. She, along with Preeti Yadav, starred for the team by scoring five goals each with impressive spin shots. For Lal Bahadur Shastri Club, Ritika and Komal netted four goals each.In the second match, Royal Club defeated Varanasi Tigers 6-4 in another competitive encounter. The teams were tied 2-2 at half time, but Royal Club maintained better control in the latter half. Sejal Singh, Sneha Chauhan and Mansi Yadav scored two goals each for the winners, while Priyanshi and Garima contributed two goals each for Varanasi Tigers.Ahead of the matches, Malkar Baba of Math Gadhwa Ashram interacted with the players. The event was presided over by UP Adventure Sports Club president AK Singh, while Bhagwat Singh, vice president of the District Rowing Association, conducted the proceedings. The vote of thanks was delivered by Madhuri Verma.
