Surat: A 34-year-old woman and six of her relatives have been booked for allegedly creating a ruckus at her estranged husband’s residence in Katargam and demanding Rs 10 lakh, which she claimed was money she had lent him to go to London.The accused have been identified as Kiran Kaklotar, her brothers, mother, uncle and other relatives. Katargam police registered an FIR against all seven following a complaint by Nikunj Kaklotar’s mother, Manju Kaklotar (60).According to police, Kiran and Nikunj had married around four years ago and subsequently travelled to London as Nikunj wanted to pursue higher studies. However, their relationship deteriorated and the couple began quarrelling after returning to India. Kiran later filed a case against Nikunj alleging domestic violence and dowry harassment.Police said Kiran and her family claimed they had provided around Rs 17 lakh to help Nikunj travel to and study in London. After the marriage turned sour, they allegedly began demanding the money back. Nikunj reportedly repaid part of the amount, but Kiran’s family continued to demand the remaining Rs 10 lakh.On August 22, Kiran allegedly went to Nikunj’s house along with her relatives and created a commotion while demanding the money. Police were called to the spot and the situation was brought under control.In her complaint, Manju alleged that Kiran and her relatives assaulted her and threatened members of the family with dire consequences if the money was not paid. Kiran’s father and uncle allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh and threatened the family with serious consequences.“After receiving the complaint and verifying the allegations, we booked all seven accused under charges including extortion and criminal intimidation,” a police officer said.
