Hyderabad: Bachupally police arrested a woman and her lover for abetting the suicide of her husband. The arrests took place on April 21, but the case only came to light on Thursday when a family member of the deceased brought it to the attention of the media. The accused are a 30-year-old housewife from Bachupally and M Ramana Reddy, a 35-year-old restaurant operator from Shamshabad. On Jan 24, the woman left home while her husband, S Seetharam Reddy, a 36-year-old techie, was out, and did not return. Following a complaint from Seetharam, a missing person report was filed at Bachupally police station on the same day.Subsequently, on Feb 8, Seetharam took his own life by jumping into Hussain Sagar. Based on his WhatsApp status, family members searched the lake and the surrounding areas. The next day, his body was found in the lake.In his complaint to the police, Seetharam’s father, S Venkateshwar Reddy, alleged that his son had taken his own life because of his daughter-in-law. “My son found out that his wife was having an affair, and that Ramana Reddy had posted her private videos on Instagram on Sept 19, 2025,” the complainant said.According to Bachupally police, Seetharam and his wife lodged a complaint against Ramana Reddy with Shamshabad police, and the latter was arrested. Subsequently, Seetharam’s wife went to stay with her parents, but after intervention from family members, she returned to live with her husband in Bachupally in Nov 2025. “As she left home again without informing anyone, Seetharam was upset. Due to the behaviour of his wife and others, including Ramana Reddy, my son took his own life by jumping into the lake,” Venkateshwar Reddy alleged in his complaint.Based on the complaint, Lake police registered a case under Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the BNS on Feb 9, and transferred it to the Bachupally police. Bachupally police then re-registered the case under the same section in March. “We arrested Seetharam’s wife and Ramana Reddy in Bachupally on April 21, and they were remanded in judicial custody,” said Bachupally inspector C Satish Kumar.
