BAHADURGARH: A woman was killed and four others, including her five-month-pregnant daughter, were injured after a speeding car allegedly crossed the divider and collided head-on with a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) near Nayagaon bypass in Bahadurgarh late at night.The family, residents of Nangloi in Delhi, was travelling to Hisar when the accident occurred at around 11.30pm.According to preliminary information, Ramavatar, a native of Gwalior, was travelling in a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MUB with his family members. Those in the vehicle included his son-in-law Virendra, daughter Lakshmi, Phoolan Devi, Shivam and Harshit.As the Ertiga reached the Nayagaon bypass, a Hyundai i20 car approaching from the opposite direction allegedly went out of control, crossed the divider and crashed into the family’s vehicle.The impact was severe, leaving both cars badly damaged and trapping several occupants inside. Passersby rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured. They were subsequently taken to the Civil Hospital in Bahadurgarh.Ramavatar suffered a serious head injury, while his daughter Lakshmi sustained multiple injuries. Lakshmi, who is five months pregnant, was referred to a hospital in Delhi for further treatment in view of her condition.Virendra and Shivam were also injured and are undergoing treatment.ASI Surender, the investigating officer at Bahadurgarh Sadar police station, said the case falls under the jurisdiction of the station. He said the driver of the car fled from the spot after abandoning the vehicle.“An FIR has been registered against the driver and efforts are being made to arrest him at the earliest,” the officer said.Police said the body of Phoolan Devi was handed over to the family after the postmortem examination.The investigating officer said further action would be taken on the basis of CCTV footage, the postmortem report and other evidence collected during the investigation.
