Noida: A 26-year-old man and his 60-year-old mother were arrested on Wednesday after his wife was found hanging at their home in Kasna’s Ghanghola village the day before.Police said Tanu (25) had married Amit Bhatia in 2020. Her younger sister had married Bhatia’s brother around the same time. At the time of the incident, the sister was asleep on the first floor while Tanu was on the ground floor.Tanu and Amit allegedly had an argument late on Monday night, after which she locked herself in a room with their two kids – aged two and four – while he slept in another room. In the early hours of Tuesday, her children woke up and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. The kids began crying, leading to family members breaking into the room to find her body.Police were informed and a team reached the spot. The body was sent for an autopsy and results are awaited. During the investigation, Tanu’s family members alleged that she was being harassed over dowry and the husband’s family was demanding a Maruti Suzuki Brezza.On Tuesday, they staged an hours-long protest outside the Kasna police station, demanding strict action be taken against Amit and his family. An FIR was subsequently registered against Amit, his mother Krishan and Amit’s brother under BNS sections 80 (dowry death) and 85 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and Section 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.Amit and Krishan were arrested on Wednesday. “Efforts are underway to nab the brother-in-law and investigation is ongoing,” said ACP (Greater Noida) Ravi Shankar.
