Gurgaon: A 45-year-old woman died after falling from the first floor of a house when an iron grille attached to the balcony gave way in Faridabad’s Bharat Colony on Thursday morning. Police have initiated inquest proceedings and are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.The woman, Sunita, lived with her husband and two children in rented accommodation on the first floor of the two-storey house.According to family members, Sunita was returning to her room carrying a bucket of water from the washroom when she lost her balance. “She tried to steady herself by holding the iron grille attached to the balcony. The grille, allegedly weakened by years of rust and deterioration, gave way and she fell to the ground along with it,” a police officer said.Sunita sustained severe head injuries. Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing a loud noise and took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Residents of the locality alleged that tenants had repeatedly informed the house owner about the deteriorating condition of the building and requested repairs, but no action was taken. They also claimed that the owner has another house in the same locality that has been rented out despite similar concerns over its condition. They said the tragedy could have been avoided had timely repairs been carried out on the ageing building.Police shifted the body for autopsy and initiated proceedings under Section 194 of BNSS. Investigators are examining whether any negligence on the part of the property owner contributed to the incident. If any negligence is established during the inquiry, appropriate legal action will be taken, police said.
