Digboi: A woman and her teenage daughter were electrocuted after a domestic power-supply wire reportedly snapped and fell on them at their home in Borjan, Tinsukia district, on Wednesday evening.The deceased were identified as Krishna Bhuyan (42) and her daughter Gitimoni Bhuyan (18).The two were sitting on the verandah around 5.15 pm when the wire suddenly snapped and fell on them, according to reports. Other family members were inside the house and were unharmed. Neighbours said Krishna’s minor son witnessed the incident.Residents took the mother and daughter to Digboi Community Health Centre. They were later referred to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital but died while being shifted, reports said.Following the deaths, residents blocked the Digboi-Duliajan road, demanding accountability, compensation and assistance for the family. They also gathered outside the electricity department’s office, seeking an explanation from the authorities.Nitya Nanda Sonowal, sub-divisional engineer of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, expressed grief over the deaths and said the matter was brought to the attention of senior officials.Sonowal said the department was also pursuing the issue with the authorities concerned regarding financial relief for the family.
