Rajkot: A 49-year-old woman from Adityana village in Porbandar district’s Ranavav taluka lodged a police complaint, alleging two loan consultants cheated her family of Rs 13 lakh, while facilitating an education loan for her daughter’s study abroad.Based on the complaint filed by Jaya Khuti, Ranavav police registered a case against Jaydeep Ramani and Mouli Talaviya for criminal breach of trust and abetment.According to the complaint, Khuti’s family had approached a Rajkot-based consultancy for help in obtaining a visa and arranging finances for her daughter’s higher education in the UK. Ramani, an agent of the consultancy, helped the family get a Rs 25 lakh education loan from a non-banking finance company (NBFC).Khuti alleged that Ramani subsequently told the family that the interest rate on the loan would be reduced under a special scheme if they deposited more than half of the sanctioned amount in one go.Rather than get the family to transfer the money to the lender’s account, Ramani instructed them to deposit it into a bank account belonging to Talaviya, who worked with him.Acting on these instructions, the family transferred Rs 10 lakh through RTGS on Dec 23, 2025, followed by another Rs 3 lakh on Jan 1 this year, the complaint stated.The fraud came to light when the family sought documents confirming that the money had been credited to their loan account but failed to get a satisfactory response. They subsequently contacted the NBFC and were informed that no such interest-reduction scheme existed and the Rs 13 lakh had not been deposited with them.Preliminary police findings indicate that Khuti’s family had borrowed money from relatives for the payments.
