Woman chased, attacked by monkeys in Faridabad; sparks panic among locals

GURGAON: A woman was injured after being attacked by a group of monkeys in the NIT area of Faridabad on Monday morning, triggering panic among residents and renewing concerns over the growing monkey menace.The incident took place around 10am on April 28 when the woman was walking through a residential lane towards her home. According to locals, a monkey suddenly chased her, and as she tried to flee, it clung to her clothes. Within moments, other monkeys in the area surrounded her and joined the attack.As the woman screamed for help, she lost her balance and fell on a ramp outside a house while attempting to escape. Residents rushed out after hearing the commotion. One of them picked up a stone and tried to scare away the monkeys, following which the animals dispersed, allowing the woman to be rescued.A resident said, “The number of monkeys in the area has increased significantly and attacks on women and children have become frequent.” He added that fear has gripped the locality, with many residents hesitant to step out of their homes.Locals alleged that repeated complaints to the municipal corporation have not led to any concrete action. “The situation is worsening by the day, but authorities have remained unresponsive,” the resident added.
