Rajkot: A woman has been booked for allegedly assaulting her six-year-old daughter at the Old Housing Board area of Junagadh after the child accidentally wet the bed.The incident came to light after neighbours recorded the assault on their mobile phones and alerted the Child Helpline. Acting on the information, a Child Helpline team reached the residence near Ramnath Temple.According to the police complaint filed by Sheetal Maru, a coordinator with the Child Helpline, the child told the team that her mother had brutally assaulted her. The girl had visible marks on several parts of her body, prompting the team to immediately alert the emergency response service through 112.Police subsequently reached the spot and took the mother and daughter to the Junagadh City ‘C’ Division police station.The mother allegedly used a wooden roller and a charging cable to assault the child around 6pm on Monday, after the girl urinated in bed. Police have booked the woman under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 115(2) of the BNS.During the inquiry, it reportedly emerged that the woman is pregnant and had visited a hospital for a routine check-up earlier on Monday. She was also irritable at the time of the incident.The child was medically examined and was subsequently placed at Shishu Mangal, an institution providing care to children.The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Tuesday directed that the girl to remain at Shishu Mangal for the time being. The committee has also ordered a home visit and a detailed assessment of the family environment to determine whether it is safe for the child to return home. The authorities will take a decision after assessing the child’s safety and the conditions at the residence.
