Woman accuses husband’s lover of driving him to suicide

Rajkot: The wife of a 30-year-old man who killed himself by poison on Aug 22 has lodged a complaint against a woman, accusing her of subjecting the deceased to harassment and threats.The complaint was filed by the 28-year-old woman at Junagadh City A Division police station against one Jasmin Qureshi of Junagadh under sections of BNS and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on Wednesday.The complainant, a conductor with Jamnagar city bus service, stated that her husband, had been working as a tea and snacks maker at a hotel near Dhoraji Chowk for around three years and used to stay there.According to the complaint, he drank poison on the night of Aug 22. The next morning, the hotel operator, Sagar Bhalsani, told that her husband had been shifted to Junagadh Civil Hospital. When his family reached the hospital, he was in the ICU.Bhalsani told the family that Qureshi had called him around 11pm on Aug 22 and told him that the deceased had drunk poison near Majevadi Darwaja. Sagar said he found Qureshi at the spot, after which they took him to the hotel before shifting him to hospital. He died on on Aug 24.The complainant alleged that her husband had repeatedly told family members that Qureshi was threatening and harassing him and that he had become trapped in their relationship.The complaint further states that Bhalsani later sent the complainant a phone recording of a conversation with the deceased. In the recording, the deceased allegedly spoke of poisoning himself at Qureshi’s house and referred to a conversation with her.According to the police, the family reportedly delayed filing the complaint because of the funeral and related rituals.
