NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has removed Jantar Mantar from the list of designated protest venues in the national capital, prompting reactions from Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Abhijeet Dipke.Ranka questioned the decision in a post on X, asking, “Why not declare Mt Everest as the designated protest site?”Dipke also criticised the move, alleging that Jantar Mantar had been turned into a “war zone” and describing the decision as an attempt to restrict protests.“They have removed Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site. Yes, it’s no longer a protest site as anyway it was turned into a war zone by the coward dictator. Ab poora desh Jantar Mantar banega!” Dipke tweeted.Under the new arrangement, Delhi Police has designated Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi as alternative venues for protests and demonstrations.According to Standing Order No. 48/2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) constituted a committee to examine alternative venues where citizens could exercise their right to organise protests and demonstrations.Based on the committee’s recommendations, Jantar Mantar has been removed from the list of designated protest venues, while the three locations have been designated for holding demonstrations. The order, issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar on October 11, partially modifies Standing Order No. 48/2022, dated April 28, 2022.
