New Delhi: Parts of the city saw very light to moderate rain as the Met issued a yellow alert, expecting the same at some places and heavy rain at isolated places.However, base station Safdarjung logged no rain; between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, Chhatarpur logged 35.5 mm rainfall, Palam logged 31 mm, Lodhi Road 0.8 mm, Ayanagar 3.9 mm rainfall.The rain had a direct impact on temperature. The maximum temperature was logged at 31.3 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal against 36 degrees a day earlier. The minimum temperature was recorded at 28 degrees, two notches above normal against 27.8 degrees a day earlier.Weather experts say that the city may see more rain in the coming days before the normal monsoon withdraws around Sept 25. Last year, Sept recorded 137 mm rainfall, while in 2024, the month recorded 192.5 mm rainfall.“Due to change in the winds, moisture load has increased and the line of trough had shifted westward; thus, rain activity in the region has increased. It will remain so for the next few days,” stated Mahesh Palawat, vice chairperson, Skymet.IMD expects moderate to light rain Thursday and Friday, with maximum temperature likely to hover around 32-34 and 32-33 degrees Celsius respectively.“Western disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level runs roughly along longitude 70°E to the north of latitude 30°N persists. No significant change in maximum temperatures during the next seven days,” stated IMD.The air quality improved to “satisfactory” as the AQI reading stood on 85 against a “moderate” 113 a day earlier.
