Went to police station after Joban’s family feared for his life: Majithia

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) functionary and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Friday claimed that he was implicated in a false case and he had gone to the police station only to find out the whereabouts of Joban Singh as his family feared for his life.Joban Singh, an Akali Dal supporter, was picked up by the police in a false case, said Majithia. I went to the police station in an attempt to find his whereabouts, he added.Joban’s mother feared that his son would be “eliminated in a false encounter”, Majithia said while addressing the mediapersons here. The SAD representative said “a false case”, alleging he had torn official papers and brandished a pistol, was registered against him because he “exposed the AAP govt plot by recovering Joban from the residence of the station house officer”.Claiming that his only intention in going to the police station was to “protect the human rights of Joban Singh”, Majithia said, “The very fact that the courts ruled Joban’s arrest as illegal and passed strictures against DSP Kamalpreet Singh proved that he had gone to the police station in good faith.”The senior Akali Dal functionary also produced video clippings, in which he alleged: “Police officers stonewalled inquiries by Joban’s next of kin and even assured that he would not be implicated in any more false cases.”Majithia said, “Despite these assurances, and after registering a case of chain theft against Joban and 14 others by name besides several unnamed persons, the police went on to register a case of illegal weapons against Joban. The affected family believed this was a prelude to eliminating him. This was the reason that we went to the police station to retrieve him from illegal custody.”MSID:: 131860529 413 |
