Guwahati/Aizawl/Imphal: Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma on Sunday declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, on Monday to allow the students to watch the final of the Fifa Men’s World Cup between Argentina and Spain.In a video message shared with students on his social media account, Sangma said the decision was taken in view of the football-loving people in the state and the strong public response to CM Fan Park.“I have some good news, especially for our football lovers. Apart from the fact that Spain and Argentina have made it to the finals, and also the wonderful response we got for the CM Fan Park, I would like to inform all of you that I have decided that tomorrow, Monday, will be a holiday for all educational institutions, including schools and colleges,” the CM said.Sangma said football was not just a sport in Meghalaya but “a passion and a way of life”. “In order to allow our youngsters to truly enjoy it, we have come to this decision. Enjoy the finals and wish you all the very best,” he added.Following suit, several private schools in Mizoram’s Aizawl, too, declared a holiday on Monday so that students and teachers could take a day’s rest before joining back.Zomuansanga Elementary School in Mission Veng was among the first to announce the closure. Principal Zodinsangi said the decision was taken to prevent students, teachers and parents from feeling pressurized to report to school after a sleepless night and to allow their families to watch the final without worrying about the next day’s schedule.At least five private schools in Aizawl have announced a holiday: Zomuansanga Elementary School (Mission Veng), Gospel Centenary School (Durtlang), Lalmalsawma Memorial School (Khatla), Neuhof English Medium School (Chanmari Veng) and Tuikual Presbyterian English School.Meanwhile, the Manipur govt also declared Monday a holiday for all educational institutions across the state to enable the students to watch the final.The order applies to schools affiliated with the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM), Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), as well as all other schools, colleges, universities and higher education institutions in the government, aided and unaided sectors.
