Water supply to be Regulated in Indira Nagar, Gomti Nagar till June 15

Lucknow: Around five lakh residents in parts of Indira Nagar and Gomti Nagar are likely to face disruption in drinking water supply for nearly a month as water from the Sharda Sahayak Canal to Kathauta lake will remain suspended from midnight of May 15 to June 15 for annual repair and maintenance work.Kathauta lake is the primary source for water supplies to areas including Indira Nagar, Gomti Nagar, Chinhat and adjoining localities. Officials said the irrigation department ordered the shutdown to undertake routine maintenance of the canal network.During the closure period, the Jal Kal Department will depend on water stored in Kathauta Lake to maintain water supplies in the affected areas.Jalkal officials said the available water reserve in the lake can sustain supply for about a month, provided distribution is carefully regulated. To manage the situation, the department will operate additional tube wells in the affected areas. If required, water tankers will also be deployed to localities facing acute water shortages or disrupted supply.Under normal conditions, water is supplied to large parts of Indira Nagar and Gomti Nagar for 14 to 16 hours daily in two phases — morning and evening — mainly to fill overhead tanks and underground reservoirs. During the canal shutdown, however, supply will be regulated and water will be provided for around eight hours in each of the two shifts.Jalkal officials advised residents in the affected areas to store water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdown period, as supply may be reduced in some localities depending on demand and availability.
