Was misquoted, I’m proud of our youth, says CJI Surya Kant

NEW DELHI: Chief Justice Surya Kant Saturday said he ‘was pained’ by a section of media misquoting his comments on youth during courtroom proceedings on Friday and clarified that his angst was against those joining the legal profession with bogus degrees and behaving like parasites. In a statement, CJI Kant said, “What I had specifically criticised were those who have entered professions like the Bar with the aid of fake and bogus degrees. Such persons have sneaked into media, social media, and other noble professions” and are attempting to weaken every system like parasites. Also read: ‘Jobless cockroaches… attack the system,’ says CJI Surya KantThe CJI-led bench was critical of an advocate who was seeking a judicial direction to the Delhi HC to designate him as senior advocate and had observed that it was looking for an appropriate case to order CBI inquiry into the genuineness of degrees of many masquerading as advocates in Delhi.CJI Surya Kant said it was beyond his imagination to criticise the youth of the country with whom he shares mutual respect.“It is totally baseless to suggest that I criticised the youth of our nation. Not only am I proud of our present and future human resource, but every youth of India inspires me. It is not an exaggeration to say that Indian youth have great regard and respect for me, and I too see them as the pillars of a developed India.”
