Warring demands minimum daily wage of Rs 750 for labourers

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday demanded that the minimum daily wage of the labourers should be raised to Rs 750. He led a demonstration in support of the long-pending demands of labourers outside the Punjab assembly on Labour Day.Speaking on the occasion, Warring said, “The special session was a mere drama on the part of the Punjab govt as it did nothing during the last four years when it had a chance to bring in laws for the welfare of the labourers.”He said, “Holding a special session at the fag end of its term has only exposed the AAP that it only wanted a drama in the name of labourers.”Warring demanded that the minimum daily wage should be raised to Rs 750 in Punjab. Besides, he said, the monthly wages for the labourers in Punjab should be between Rs 15,000 to Rs 17,000, for the semi-skilled between Rs 19,000 to Rs 20,000 and for the skilled labourers between Rs 20,000 to Rs 22,000.He promised, “Once the Congress forms govt after the elections in the state, it will ensure minimum Rs 750 daily wage for labourers and will consider all other demands sympathetically.”
