Noida: Hundreds of Shiv Nadar University workers staged a protest on Wednesday outside its Dadri campus, demanding higher wages and double overtime pay, two days after the agitation for higher wages by industrial workers. Police said the demonstration remained peaceful and was resolved after talks between the workers and local authorities by around 10.45am.The demonstration began around 10am. “We are working long hours but our wages have not increased in years. The maximum wage per month is around Rs 12,000-13,000. How can a family sustain in a city like Noida with such an amount? Even overtime is not paid fairly. We are only asking for what is justified,” said Ramesh Kumar, a contractual worker. The workers are deployed in several job roles, including security guards, sweepers, housekeeping and gardening, among others.
“LPG prices have shot up so high, one refill is costing around Rs 3,000-4,000. Prices of food and rent are going up every month. I have three children who study in school. Without a proper salary revision, it is becoming impossible for us to manage basic expenses,” one woman said.Police officials confirmed that adequate security arrangements were in place and that the situation was closely monitored. Following recent unrest in Noida’s industrial areas, authorities have intensified security across Gautam Budh Nagar, including flag marches and increased patrolling in sensitive zones.A senior police officer at the protest site said, “We ensured that the protest remained peaceful. Continuous dialogue helped resolve the issue without any escalation.”University officials clarified that the protesting workers are employed through third-party contractors. “The university ensures compliance with rules and regulations, but these workers are not directly on our payroll,” an official stated.
