CUDDALORE: DMDK general secretary and candidate of the DMK-led alliance Premallatha Vijayakanth undertook an extensive door-to-door campaign in Vridhachalam constituency, ending her trail with a massive rally in front of the historic Virudhagiriswarar temple. Beginning her day at the local Uzhavar Sandhai, Premallatha interacted with vegetable vendors, merchants, and the public. She met with commuters at the bus stand and staff members at the local Amma Unavagam and sought votes for the murasu symbol.Invoking the memory of her late husband, “Captain” Vijayakanth, who won this seat in 2006, Premallatha made an emotional appeal to the voters. She revealed that although district secretaries in all the 234 constituencies wanted her to contest from their regions, she chose Vridhachalam because it was the birthplace of the DMDK’s political identity. “Vridhachalam is in my blood, breath and veins. Captain himself told me in spirit to choose this soil. I am standing here not just as a candidate, but as your daughter and sister,” she said.Premallatha promised to make the constituency a model for the state. She vowed that her maiden speech in the legislative assembly would be a demand to declare Vridhachalam as a separate district. She pledged to revive the ceramic industry, establish a govt medical college hospital, an engineering college, and a dedicated arts and science college for women. She thanked VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan for his unwavering support, noting that he had strengthened the coalition’s resolve. “He called me a ‘female panther’ (Penn Siruthai), and it is that strength I will use to fight for you,” she remarked.
