Gurgaon: Authorities are widening voter awareness efforts by taking information directly to public institutions, workplaces and community spaces as part of the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) campaign.Citizens visiting banks, petrol pumps, sports complexes, stadiums and govt offices will soon find publicity material explaining the voter verification process and the documents required for participation. Special focus is being placed on industrial areas, labour colonies and migrant workers.The labour department has been directed to spread awareness among workers and encourage them to submit the necessary documents. The department of town and country planning and builders will reach out to labourers employed at construction sites. The sports department will display information through flex boards and awareness material at sports nurseries, stadiums and sports complexes to engage young voters and athletes.Banks have been asked to disseminate information among customers, while the food and supplies department will publicise the campaign at ration depots. Similar awareness material will also be displayed at petrol pumps and other public locations to ensure maximum outreach.Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Sonu Bhatt on Wednesday held a meeting of officers of various departments regarding the SIR-2026 campaign and issued necessary guidelines for the extensive publicity of the campaign. “Conveying information about the campaign of the voter list to every section of society is the collective responsibility of all departments,” the ADC said. All departments were asked to nominate one SVEEP nodal officer each. These officers will share information about activities organised at the departmental level and other evidence with the election department and ensure necessary coordination.The ADC directed the labour department to make special efforts to convey information about the campaign to industrial areas, labour colonies and migrant workers. Directions were also given to conduct awareness activities in collaboration with DTCP and builders to reach out to workers employed at construction sites. The sports department was directed to make players and youth aware of the campaign by displaying flexes and information material in sports nurseries, stadiums and sports complexes.Similarly, directions were given to put up awareness material and flexes in all banks to convey information to the maximum number of people in banking institutions. The food and supplies department was asked to display publicity material related to the campaign at ration depots and related public places, and other concerned departments at petrol pumps.ADC directed the district development and panchayat officer to make voters aware in all villages through gram sabhas. Municipal corporations and other such bodies’ officers were asked to organise meetings with councillors and convey information about the campaign to the general public. The education department was directed to provide information about the SIR campaign in the prayer assemblies of schools and to organise debate and awareness activities, including conveying the message to families through students.The ADC directed self-help groups to connect with the campaign through Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, National Rural Livelihood Mission and the women and child development department to increase door-to-door awareness through anganwadi workers and the health department through ASHA workers. He said that information about the campaign can be conveyed to the maximum number of citizens through these grassroots-level networks.“The campaign is an important opportunity to make the electoral process more empowered and transparent. All departments should work in coordination and convey its information to the maximum number of citizens so that no eligible voter is deprived of the list,” Bhatt added.
