Pune: Residents of Vimannagar met Pune police officials recently to flag persistent traffic congestion and civic issues in the area, with the department identifying key bottlenecks and promising targeted enforcement over the coming days.Deputy commissioner of police (zone VII) Somay Munde along with other officials met 30 residents.Traffic snarls remained a core concern, but the discussion extended to encroachments, illegal rooftop establishments, noise pollution and liquor shop-related nuisance. Residents said all the factors contributed to congestion and safety risks in the neighbourhood.“The junctions near key arterial roads are choked frequently, especially during peak hours. Illegal parking only worsens the situation. We need sustained enforcement, not just sporadic drives,” said Anita Hanumante, a local resident.Officials said action had already begun. One rooftop establishment in Vimannagar was shut down, while others were under close watch. Residents were encouraged to share photo and video evidence of violations to enable quicker legal action.Sandeep Singh, another resident, said, “Traffic management in the area is not just about signals. Encroachments, roadside drinking and unregulated activity around commercial establishments are all linked to the daily chaos.”Police officials also highlighted operational challenges and said drives against encroachments and illegal activities often require six hours due to legal and logistical procedures.In a bid to build trust, Mundhe invited residents to volunteer during enforcement drives and assured protection to those reporting violations. “Anyone facing threats for raising community issues can approach the police directly,” he added.Residents said they would follow up with the authorities as detailed plans to address the identified bottlenecks were awaited.
