Lucknow: Vigilance Establishment has registered an FIR against Ramnaresh Sonkar, currently posted as deputy director in the Mandi Parishad in Banda, on allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Sonkar previously served in Gonda.Officials said a vigilance inquiry found that Sonkar and his family earned ₹67.82 lakh during the period under scrutiny, while their total expenditure on household maintenance, property purchases, investments and other financial transactions was assessed at ₹1.13 crore. The agency has alleged an excess expenditure of ₹45.61 lakh beyond lawful income.The inquiry was initiated in 2021 on govt directions to examine complaints of disproportionate assets. During the probe, vigilance officials verified income records, asset acquisitions, investments and family expenses. Investigators said Sonkar was asked to account for the alleged excess, but his explanation was found unsatisfactory.After the probe report was sent to the state govt, prosecution sanction was granted on July 15, 2026. Vigilance Department’s Ayodhya Sector registered the FIR on Sept 11 under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
