Vidyapith launches one-day donation drive on World Book Day

Ahmedabad: Marking World Book Day, Gujarat Vidyapith Library has started ‘Gyan Sanchay Mahotsav-2026′, a one-day book donation drive aimed at expanding its collection through public participation. This special event, held on April 23, invites the community to contribute to the institution’s legendary archives.The campaign encourages individuals, institutions and readers to donate books from personal, family or organisational collections. Rare books and manuscripts are also being invited as part of the effort to widen access to knowledge and support a stronger reading culture. Donors are encouraged to bring works that reflect diverse perspectives and historical significance.Founded in 1920 by Mahatma Gandhi, Gujarat Vidyapith is known for its unique approach to education rooted in values such as self-reliance, cultural awareness and national service. Its library, enriched further in 1929 through the integration of Shrimad Rajchandra Gyan Bhandar, now houses more than 6 lakh books, including rare manuscripts and texts across multiple languages. The current collection serves as a vital resource for scholars and researchers from across the globe.Through this initiative, the library aims to strengthen reading culture and make knowledge more accessible to society. Organizers hope this mahotsav will inspire a new generation to cherish and preserve the printed word for years to come.
