Noida: Residents of Sector 108 have sought action against illegal street vendors occupying the sector’s service road, saying carts and kiosks are creating safety hazards and worsening encroachment. A series of complaints by Digamber Singh, president of the sector RWA, has renewed focus on the problem.Singh wrote to the general manager (Civil) AK Arora and the Noida ACP 1 about growing concerns related to the encroachment of service roads by street vendors.“Illegal street carts, roadside stalls, and kiosks are being set up daily on the service road in Sector 108. This area has become a gathering point for drug addicts and other anti-social elements, creating a security risk for the residents. Additionally, the placement of tables and chairs by these vendors not only impedes traffic flow but has also attracted an influx of anti-social elements, creating a concerning environment for the families,” he said.Earlier this month, a resident’s mobile was snatched by a bike-borne assailant outside Gate No 1, leading to heightened concerns over safety in the area. Without urgent intervention, residents could be at significant risk, Singh said, adding, “Apart from that, sanitation issues are also a concern with so many vendors in the area.”He has urged both the Authority and the police to take immediate steps to remove the illegal installations and enhance patrolling in the area.“I request that all such anti-social elements be removed from the area and that police patrolling be conducted to ensure the safety and security of the residents and to restore order on the service road, ensuring that it remains accessible for emergencies and daily commuters,” Singh said.The Authority and police officials, meanwhile, said the issues would be addressed soon.
