Chennai: VCK and DMDK appear to be indecisive on extending support to TVK to form govt.VCK which had convened a meeting of its senior functionaries on Thursday to discuss TVK’s proposal has postponed the event to Friday. Senior VCK leaders said they have received official communication from TVK seeking support to form the govt, with the promise of a cabinet berth to VCK. DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakanth too is yet to disclose whether she will join TVK or remain with the DMK-led Secular Progressive Allaince. Premallath, accompanied by her brother L K Sudheesh, called on outgoing chief minister M K Stalin at his residence, but did not say whether DMDK will extend support to TVK. VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan summoned general secretaries D Ravi Kumar, Sinthanai Selvan and other seniors to hold discussions over the TVK’s proposal. “We cannot take a decision yet based on the letter. The party has to consider various factors and their ramifications. We will hold talks with senior leaders to arrive at a consensus regarding the party’s future,” he said. “The party’s high-level committee will take the call on whether to extend support to TVK on Thursday,” VCK general secretary Sinthanai Selvan told TOI. But the party later postponed the meeting to Friday due to a statewide joint protest by VCK, CPI, and CPM against Union govt’s LPG price hike. Senior leaders said Thirumavalavan decided to discuss with other alliance partners — CPM and CPI — before taking a stand. “It all depends on the Left parties’ decision. Our objective is to respect the people’s mandate, and it is clear that Vijay has the right to form the govt. At the same time, the mandate sends a clear message — a coalition govt is good for democracy,” said a VCK leader.
