HYDERABAD: A controversy over the alleged unauthorised teaching of the Urdu language to primary school students has triggered a law and order situation at Bharat Chandra School in Perkit village in Armoor mandal of Nizamabad district on Saturday. After local BJP workers assaulted the school Principal in the presence of police, two FIRs were registered, one regarding teaching of Urdu without permission and the other for assaulting the teacher.According to Armoor police, on the instructions from the additional collector (revenue), Nizamabad, and the sub-collector, Armoor, regarding unauthorised teaching of Urdu at Bharat Chandra High School (Bhavishya Darshini School), the investigating team, comprising the revenue inspector and MEO (in charge), Armoor, along with local police, examined students of Classes I, III, IV and VII, teaching and non-teaching staff, Principal Ameer Khan, Correspondent Mallaiah, and parents on Saturday.“The enquiry revealed that Huma Hania, who was recently appointed as a Hindi teacher for Classes I to V, had been teaching Urdu instead of teaching only the prescribed Hindi syllabus to primary students without authorisation from competent authorities. Multiple students confirmed that their Hindi teacher taught Urdu during class hours. Both the Principal and Correspondent admitted to having received complaints from parents and claimed they had subsequently directed the teacher to discontinue Urdu instruction,” Armoor Inspector P Satyanarayana said in an official statement. The enquiry also found that Urdu notes written in students’ notebooks were allegedly torn by the school management and Principal following objections from parents. The alleged removal or destruction of Urdu notes from students’ notebooks appears to have aggravated public concern and ultimately resulted in a law and order situation at the school premises. The situation escalated when BJP Armoor Town President Mandula Balu, accompanied by party workers including Nuthana Srinivas, arrived at the school premises on Saturday afternoon and raised objection to the unauthorised teaching. The school Principal, Ameer Khan, was manhandled by BJP workers in the presence of police.“We have registered two cases regarding the incident at the school in Perkit. First case was against BJP workers for school trespass and assault of the Principal. Second case was against the school management for unauthorised teaching. Both the cases are under investigation,” Nizamabad Commissioner P Sai Chaitanya said.Armoor police said that the first case was registered against BJP workers M Balu and associates for trespassing into the school and assaulting the Principal under Sections 329(4) (punishment for trespass), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), and 324(4) (mischief) read with Section 3(5) (common intention) BNS.The second case was booked against school Correspondent Mallaiah, Principal Ameer Khan and Teacher Huma Hania under Section 196(1)(b) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) read with Section 3(5) BNS.“No arrests have been made yet,” the inspector said.
