UPSDM mandates AI course, newspaper reading must for trainees at skill dev

Lucknow: Trainees enrolled in short-term skill programmes in Uttar Pradesh will now have to complete a mandatory four-hour ‘AI for All’ course to become job-ready.The duration of short-term programmes is 900 hours, while residential training centres will conduct a minimum of eight hours of classes every day.According to the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM), the initiative integrates AI with vocational trades such as IT, healthcare and tailoring so that students can use practical AI tools for their specific job roles.UPSDM has also asked training providers to keep one Hindi and one English newspaper daily to enhance the general awareness of trainees.“Regular reading of newspapers will enhance the employability of trainees and develop their self-confidence, communication skills and analytical thinking,” officials said.According to vocational education and skill development minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal, UPSDM used the Kaushal Darpan AI Dashboard for target allocation. This, he said, will make skill training fully transparent and outcome-oriented.“Targets have been assigned to all 936 training providers solely on the basis of the capacity of their centres and verification reports submitted by the district project management units,” he said.Mission director Pulkit Khare said a total of 936 training providers have been entrusted with training more than 1 lakh youth.Of these, 831 private, govt and start-up training providers have been assigned a target of training 91,425 youth, while 105 industrial and new-age training providers have been given a target of training 14,650 youth.Earlier, in April, during the first phase, 957 training providers were allocated targets to train more than 99,000 youth, and those training programmes are currently being conducted smoothly.
