LUCKNOW: In a case of suspected honour killing, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her three brothers, including a minor, after they found her with her boyfriend in UP’s Maharajganj district.The three accused were arrested on Sunday.The incident occurred in Bhawanipur Tola Amahiya village on Friday night. The victim, Sangeeta, was allegedly attacked with iron rods by her brothers.Police said the main accused brother, Kamlesh, 25, returned home late on Friday with his mother and found his sister with her boyfriend Ravi Kumar Gupta, 22, in a compromising state. An enraged Kamlesh summoned his brothers — Amlesh, 23, and another 15-year-old — who were in the neighbourhood.The trio allegedly locked the couple in a room and assaulted them with iron rods. Sangeeta died on the spot due to severe injuries, while Ravi was critically injured. He managed to escape but was chased and assaulted again before being dumped near his house.When Ravi regained consciousness, he reached his home and told his family about the incident, who, in turn, informed police.To destroy evidence, the accused allegedly took Sangeeta’s body out of the village and partially burnt it to conceal the evidence.Initially, a case was registered against the accused brothers under sections 115(2), 351(2), and 352 of the BNS on a complaint by Ravi’s uncle Sunil Gupta. But after the initial probe, more serious charges, including section 103(1) (murder), were added.Maharajganj SP Shakti Mohan Avasthy said while Kamlesh and Amlesh were sent to jail the minor was sent to a juvenile home.Police said the girl’s other family members also gave misleading information about her whereabouts. Police said during initial questioning each brother gave a different version of events, raising suspicion. When they were further grilled, Kamlesh broke down and confessed to the crime.Police have recovered the half-burnt body of Sangeeta and sent it for postmortem
