Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been formally nominated as the Lead Knowledge Institution (LKI) for the Telangana govt under the state support mission (SSM) of NITI Aayog, marking a major milestone for the varsity in policy research and governance support.The nomination, communicated by the Telangana planning department, recognises the university’s multidisciplinary research expertise and its role in supporting evidence-based policymaking in the state. Under the initiative, UoH will assist the govt through policy research, technical expertise, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, data analytics, sectoral studies, and capacity-building programmes.The varsity is expected to collaborate closely with govt departments in strategic sectors, including economics and finance, agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, technology, entrepreneurship, urban development, and human resource development.The initiative also aims to support Telangana’s long-term ‘Vision 2047’ goals, with a focus on inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-driven growth.Vice-chancellor in-charge Prof J Anuradha described the nomination as a matter of immense pride for the university community. She thanked the Telangana govt for reposing its confidence in UoH and said the initiative would provide faculty members and researchers an opportunity to translate academic knowledge into actionable public policy support.She added that the university’s R&D cell would coordinate the mission, with active participation from various schools, departments, and centres to strengthen evidence-based governance and institutional development in the state.
