A video of the incident was circulated on social media

Noida: A greyhound allegedly attacked a woman and her pet pug at Grand Omaxe in Sector 93B of Noida, killing the smaller dog. A two-minute video of the incident being circulated on social media shows the woman falling to the ground as she tries to protect her pet, while other residents struggle to separate the dogs but fail to save the pug.The video shows a woman walking her small pet dog inside the society premises when another woman approaches with a large dog. The large greyhound suddenly lunges at the first woman and her pug, causing her to fall to the ground. The woman tries to protect her pet as the larger dog clamps its jaws around the pug and repeatedly mauls it.Several other residents rushed to intervene and attempted to separate the animals. However, their efforts failed to save the smaller dog, which died following the attack. An FIR has subsequently been registered against the dog walker seen in the video and the owner of the dog, Khushi Tyagi, under BNS sections 291 (negligent conduct with respect to an animal) and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), along with provisions under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.The disturbing video has since been widely shared on social media, with users questioning whether adequate precautions were taken while handling a large and powerful dog in a common area used by residents for walking and other recreational activities.Residents have raised concerns about the responsibility of pet owners and dog handlers to ensure that their animals remain under control and do not pose a threat to other people or pets. The incident has brought renewed attention to the precautions required when walking large dogs in residential societies, particularly in areas where children, elderly residents and other pet owners frequently move around.Questions have also been raised about the use of muzzles and the ability of handlers to restrain dogs during unexpected encounters. The circumstances of the attack and the respective roles of the individuals named in the FIR are subject to investigation, police said.
