University of Rajasthan Sports Board to host All India Inter-University Handball Men tournament in Jaipur from April 21-25

Jaipur: University of Rajasthan Sports Board is organising the All India Inter-University Handball Men tournament from April 21 to 25 here at the University Sports Complex.Sixteen teams from across the country will vie for the top honours in the five-day competition, which returned to the University of Rajasthan after a gap of twelve years.The tournament poster was released by Vice Chancellor Prof Alpana Kateja here on Monday.Organising secretary Dr Pratibha Singh Ratnu, secretary, sports board, Kuldeep Dhankar, chairman, Univ sports board, SN Pareek and others were present on the occasion.Addressing a press conference, Pratibha Singh Ratnu said the preparations are in full swing for the upcoming tournament,“Players and teams from various states across the country began arriving at the university’s sports grounds today. The tournament will be played on league-cum-knockout basis. Sixteen teams have been equally divided into four groups. The top two teams from each pool will enter the knock-out phase. Matches will get underway from Tuesday morning,” said Ratnu.In all, 32 matches will be played in the tourney. Rajasthan University team is the winner of West Zone inter-university tourney and has been placed in the Group C.Para swimmer and Padmashree awardee Dr Satyendra Singh Lohiya, former Olympian and Arjuna awardee Gopal Saini, vice-chancellorProf Alpana Kateja will inaugurate the tournament at 5 pm on Tuesday.The Physical Education Department informed that all arrangements for the grounds and accommodation for the tournament have been completed. The Rajasthan University campus has become a sporting event with teams arriving from across the country.
