Pathankot: A private bus crashed into a motorcycle and a scooter before dragging them for nearly 200 feet on the Pathankot-Jalandhar national highway on Wednesday, killing two people and injuring two others.Enraged passersby set the bus on fire after the driver and the conductor fled. The accident occurred around 10 am when the bus, travelling from Jalandhar to Jammu, allegedly went out of control near Sandipani Gurukul School at Kauntarpur village. It struck the two-wheelers before ramming into bystanders along the roadside, injuring a woman and her child. Nangal Bhoor police SHO Jagdish Kumar identified the deceased as Arun Kumar (32) and Ranjit Singh (38), both residents of Kauntarpur. Ranjit Singh is survived by his wife and two young sons and assisted his father in farming, while Arun Kumar worked at a tent house in the village. Police registered a case and formed special teams to arrest the absconding driver and conductor. Locals alleged several fatal accidents have occurred on the same stretch in recent years and demanded strict action against reckless driving by private bus operators.
