Truck rams into halted tourist bus, 2 women die

Hyderabad: Two women pilgrims died, and two others sustained serious injuries after a truck rammed into a tourist bus parked on the national highway following a tyre puncture near Govindpet bridge in Armoor mandal of Nizamabad on Thursday. The collision pushed the bus onto passengers seated on the median.The victims were identified as Sujatha, 54, and Madhavi, 47. The injured, Sunitha and Chitakka, were shifted to a govt hospital for treatment. Their condition was being monitored by doctors.The pilgrims, from Kinwat in Maharashtra’s Nanded district, were travelling in two tourist buses to Hyderabad to visit Chinna Jeeyar Swamy. When they reached the Govindpet bridge area on the national highway, one of the buses suffered a tyre puncture. Both buses were then stopped on the highway.Some passengers got off the bus and sat on the median while waiting for the tyre to be repaired. A truck approaching from behind at high speed failed to notice the stationary bus in time and crashed into it.The force of the collision pushed the tourist bus towards the median, where the passengers were seated. Sujatha and Madhavi suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot, while Sunitha and Chitakka sustained serious injuries.Police reached the spot soon after being alerted and launched rescue operations. The injured were shifted to hospital, while the bodies were sent to a govt hospital for postmortem. Traffic on the national highway was disrupted for some time following the accident, and police regulated vehicular movement.Nizamabad police commissioner Sai Chaitanya visited the accident site and reviewed the circumstances leading to the crash.The commissioner directed officials to ensure that the injured received proper medical treatment and that their condition was closely monitored. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, including the truck driver’s alleged negligence and speeding.
