Panchkula: The anti-narcotics cell of Panchkula police has arrested a truck driver and seized 22kg of poppy husk (chura post) allegedly brought from Rajasthan for local distribution.The accused, Gurcharan Singh alias Guddu (60), a resident of Pinjore, was produced before a court, which remanded him in police custody for five days.DCP (crime and traffic) Amrinder Singh said they were tipped off about the accused transporting poppy husk in a truck and would reach Pinjore via the Mouli-Barwala road. Acting on the information, a team led by anti-narcotics cell in-charge Saurav Rawat intercepted the vehicle and recovered 22kg of poppy husk from a sack kept behind the driver’s seat.A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Chandimandir police station. During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to procuring the contraband from Rajasthan.Police said the remand period would be used to identify the supplier, trace the intended recipients and uncover others linked to the smuggling network.
