Hyderabad: Sangareddy police arrested the truck driver accused in a fatal accident that killed five agricultural labourers from Karnataka and an auto driver near Zaheerabad late on Tuesday. Police said the six labourers who were injured in the accident are currently stable.At around 7.30 pm, a Maharashtra-registered truck travelling from Humnabad to Hyderabad rammed into an auto rickshaw that was taking a U-turn at Satwar village in Zaheerabad mandal on NH-65. Auto driver Devadas and 11 agricultural labourers from Rajigira village in Karnataka’s Bidar district, who were returning home after a day’s work at Budhera village in Sangareddy district, sustained severe injuries in the accident.Chiragpally police, along with locals, rushed all the injured to Zaheerabad area hospital for treatment. Five of the injured, including auto driver Devadas and labourers Rakhamma, Sridevi, Kavitha alias Jagadevi and Reshma, were declared dead on arrival. Another injured labourer, Nikhita, succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to a govt hospital in Bidar, Chiragpally SI K Vinay Kumar said.Among the six other injured labourers, Nirmala was shifted to Wellness hospital in Sangareddy, while Tuljamma, Chandrakala, Radhika, Shilpa and Shobamma were admitted to a govt hospital in Bidar. “Among the six injured, Nirmala and Tuljamma suffered severe injuries, but their condition has remained stable since Tuesday night. The others are out of danger,” the SI said.Zaheerabad DSP B Saida Naik said police arrested the truck driver, Rambul Yadav, a native of Uttar Pradesh, in Zaheerabad on Wednesday. He fled the spot after abandoning the vehicle. “He was not under the influence of alcohol. The accused will be produced before the court for judicial remand,” the DSP said. A case was registered against Yadav under sections 106 (1) (causing death due to negligence) and 125 (a) (causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS.
