Tripura doc, interning in Kol, seeks protection for parents after attack on home

Agartala: A Tripura doctor, interning at a Kolkata hospital, has sought protection for her parents following an alleged attack on their home at Kalachara in Sabroom, South Tripura, on Independence Day night. In a Facebook post addressed to CM Manik Saha, Dr. Parmita Sen expressed concern for the safety of her father, Mrinal Sen, and mother, Gita Majumdar Sen. Sen has alleged that a group, suspected to be linked to land mafias, attacked her parents and brother, Tanmoy Sen, at their residence. She also alleged an attempted sexual assault on her mother and said the family has subsequently received threats.Police, however, attributed the attack and vandalism to a longstanding boundary dispute between the family and its neighbours.According to the complaint, neighbours Biswajit Debnath and his brother Apu Debnath arrived at Mrinal Sen’s residence in an intoxicated state on Saturday night. They allegedly damaged the gate and other parts of the house before entering the premises and assaulting family members.Speaking to reporters, Saha said he had directed police to take appropriate action. He said senior officers had visited the family’s home and had initiated an investigation.
