Agartala: Ratan Saha, a cinema promoter and businessman from Tripura and elder brother of CM Manik Saha, has been chosen as the president of the Eastern India Motion Pictures Association (EIMPA).EIMPA oversees film production and studio management in Tollygunge. The election was triggered by the defeat of former Trinamool minister Arup Biswas, who faced accusations of corruption and extortion and had influence over Tollygunge.Ratan is the founder of SSR Cinema Chains, which runs various movie theaters in Kolkata and Agartala. Reports indicate that Ratan’s election was preceded by a walk-out by former president Piya Sengupta, who raised concerns about the conduct of EIMPA executive committee’s meeting.Ratan was elected without opposition.
