Traffic police seize 44 vehicles, issue 3,558 challans in crackdown

Lucknow: The city traffic police issued 3,558 challans and seized 44 vehicles during a special enforcement drive on Tuesday targeting illegal passenger vehicles, wrong-side driving, illegal parking and other traffic violations.The action was carried out in compliance with Allahabad high court directions to improve traffic management, particularly along the Polytechnic-Kamta-Chinhat stretch of Ayodhya Road.The joint drive by traffic and local police covered key locations, including Polytechnic, Kamta, Alambagh and Ahimamau, focusing on unauthorised passenger vehicles, roadside parking and commercial vehicles stopping on carriageways to pick up or drop passengers.Among the violations, police issued 1,240 challans for riding without helmets, 943 for illegal parking, 448 for wrong-side driving, 192 for defective number plates, 107 for driving without insurance and 103 for triple riding.Officials said the crackdown is part of a broader traffic-management exercise. A joint survey of the Polytechnic-Chinhat corridor and adjoining routes identified 153 traffic bottlenecks and problem spots requiring corrective measures.Traffic police said steps are being taken to prevent unauthorised parking, curb illegal transport operations and ensure smooth movement at intersections. Joint enforcement drives with the transport department and local police will continue against illegal vehicles, roadside passenger boarding and other traffic obstructions.Officials also urged commuters to avoid unauthorised passenger vehicles and follow traffic rules to ensure safer and smoother traffic flow across the city.
