Trader dies as brick falls on head during Dalmandi demolition work

Varanasi: A trader passing through Dalmandi on Tuesday died after suffering grave injury caused by a brick that fell on his head amid demolition of buildings taking place in the area on a large scale. The trader was heading to his shop when a brick fell on his head. He was rushed to trauma centre of BHU where he died during treatment.As news spread, people from Dalmandi and nearby localities gathered at the trauma centre. In view of the sensitive issue, DCP Kashi Zone Gaurav Banswal reached the spot and deployed force from several police stations as precautionary measure. Later, officials of district administration and PWD reached the trauma centre to assist and hold talks with the family of the deceased, Parvez Khan alias Chunnu, 54, who ran a shop of caps and bags.During talks with officials, Khan’s family made some demands and the officials assured to look into them sympathetically. Later, the body was sent for postmortem, said the DCP.During police investigation it came to light that demolition drive continued in Dalmandi despite rainfall. Locals alleged that since there was no barricading, people kept moving through the lanes where demolition was in progress.Around 3 pm, Khan was passing by house number CK-67/21, which was being demolished, when a broken brick fell on his head from an upper floor. He fell down and was bleeding profusely. He was rushed him to the trauma centre, where he struggled for life for several hours but died late night.
