Several parts of Surat remained inundated in water on second day as the rain water is yet to recede
Surat: At least 13 people died in the floods that battered Surat during the 24-hour period ending Wednesday morning. Most of the victims died due to drowning.The highest number of deaths was reported from the Dindoli police station area, where four bodies were recovered, including that of a 59-year-old man.In Bhestan, two brothers drowned while returning home from work after getting caught in the floodwaters. In another tragic incident, a 9-year-old specially abled boy from Pandesara, who had stepped out of his house to play, was found dead after being swept away by the water. The body of a 16-year-old boy was also recovered from the Pandesara area.Police in Puna, Sachin GIDC and Chowk bazaar also reported drowning deaths in their jurisdictions. A 73-year-old resident of Bhestan was among those who died.Officials said the fatalities occurred as heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding across several parts of the city, inundating roads and residential areas. Authorities have urged residents to avoid venturing into waterlogged areas and to exercise caution as relief and restoration work continues.
