Kolkata: Met officials in the city said on Friday that it was too early to predict the southwest monsoon’s arrival date in Kolkata, although the IMD has forecast an early onset over Kerala. The weather office has announced that the monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala on May 26, with a model error of ±4 days. The normal onset date in Kerala is June 1.“June 10 is considered the normal date for the monsoon’s arrival in Kolkata. But we will have to wait for the onset over Kerala before forecasting its arrival here. There is, however, no one-to-one correlation between the Kerala onset and the monsoon’s arrival in Kolkata,” said HB Biswas, head of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata.
