Guwahati: A 2.5-yea-old child was killed in a road accident in Guwahati’s Paltanbazar area on Friday, triggering chaos and public outrage at the scene.The deceased toddler has been identified as Rahela Khatun. Police said the incident occurred when a speeding vehicle hit the child.“She was rushed for medical treatment but succumbed to her injuries. The body has been sent to GMCH for post-mortem examination,” police said. Police seized the vehicle, which did not have a registration number, and detained its owner, Mintu Ali.Tension flared soon after the incident as angry locals gathered at the spot. In the ensuing chaos, one Digambar Deka, who had reportedly tried to help the injured child, was mistakenly blamed by a section of the crowd and assaulted after being suspected of driving the vehicle that hit the child.The mob also vandalised Deka’s vehicle. Police later reached the area, brought the situation under control, and began a probe into the incident.
