Guwahati: A container truck met with an accident before getting onto the Saraighat bridge early on Wednesday morning after reportedly losing balance. No fatality was reported in the incident, but the driver and the handyman sustained injuries, who were later hospitalised, police said.According to traffic officials, the truck was coming from the Amingaon side and heading towards Jalukbari when the driver lost control before getting onto the bridge, causing the vehicle to veer off course and fall. “We found that the driver was extremely tired and lost balance. Police team reached the spot and launched a rescue operation,” a traffic officer from Jalukbari PS said.The driver and handyman were rescued from the wreckage and immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable.The incident led to temporary traffic congestion on the bridge as rescue and recovery operations were carried out. Police personnel regulated traffic movement to prevent further disruption. “There was no other vehicle involved in the accident,” the traffic official added.The Saraighat bridge, a key link connecting Guwahati with several districts of north Assam, witnesses heavy vehicular movement daily, particularly commercial transport vehicles.
