Hyderabad: The state govt has issued orders naming the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Sanathnagar, after former chief minister Dr Marri Chennareddy. According to GO No.63, the institute will now be known as the Dr Marri Chennareddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences.In another major decision, the govt appointed Dr A Narendra Kumar as the in charge director of the TIMS Sanathnagar. Dr Kumar, who retired as director of medical education (DME) on July 31, will assume his new responsibilities from Aug 1, as per GO No 64. Officials said that his extensive administrative experience would be utilised during the construction and operationalisation of the TIMS SanathnagarAdditionally, the govt appointed Dr N Vani, currently the superintendent of Gandhi Hospital, as the new DME through GO Rt No.318. Dr Vani had previously served as DME as well. Noting that Dr Chennareddy was a distinguished doctor and former Sanathnagar MLA, health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said naming TIMS Sanathnagar after him would serve as an inspiration to provide better healthcare services to the public.The minister further said entrusting Dr Kumar with the additional responsibility of TIMS would help ensure the institute is developed as a world-class super-specialty hospital and made operational at the earliest. Congratulating Dr Vani, the minister said her experience would help advance the govt’s healthcare initiatives more effectively while ensuring quality healthcare services in govt hospitals.
