Times of India journalists win Press Club Kolkata awards

Two journalists from The Times of India won Press Club Kolkata’s ‘Sangbad Prabhakar Shera Sangbadikata Puraskar 2026’. The awards were given away on Wednesday.Pinak Priya Bhattacharya, who reports from Jalpaiguri, won the first prize in the ‘English Print Media’ category for his story on 16-year-old Sumita Oraon, a girl from Budhuram village in Jalpaiguri’s Gorumara forest area, who was the first to appear for Madhyamik examination from her village. Mohammad Asif, who reports from Burdwan, received the jury award in the ‘English Print Media’ category for his story on a 104-year-old from Jamalpur in East Burdwan, Sk Irahim, who has been a voter since Independence but had to face scrutiny under SIR when he was sent a notice regarding spelling mismatch in his name on the voters’ list of 2002 and the electoral roll of 2025. The Press Club observed its 82nd Foundation Day on Wednesday.
