Gorakhpur: Stating that security is the foremost prerequisite for good governance, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said that timely police recruitment, structured training and improved infrastructure since 2017 have significantly enhanced the efficiency of the force, leading to a stronger law and order environment in Uttar Pradesh.Addressing a gathering after inaugurating two modern security buildings in the Gorakhnath Temple area, the CM said: “Security is the first condition of good governance. Every individual needs security. While our govt has always made efforts in this direction, earlier the focus was largely limited to recruitment,” he said. that security forms the foundation of good governance.The newly inaugurated facilities will house offices of senior police officials, including the additional SP and deputy SP, along with a control room, storeroom and a maintenance workshop. The project has been completed at a cost of over Rs 9.18 crore.The CM said: “A constable, sub-inspector or any police officer comes from among us. Without proper training and infrastructure, they remain like any ordinary citizen and cannot perform their duties effectively.”Highlighting reforms, he said that more than 2.19 lakh police personnel have been recruited in the past nine years. Training capacity, which stood at around 3,000 earlier, has now increased to nearly 60,000 at a time due to better infrastructure.Yogi also pointed out that police personnel earlier faced poor residential facilities, often forcing them to live in rentedaccommodations. This led to frequent disputes with landlords, especially during crucial times like children’s examinations. “Such issues have now largely been resolved with the development of housing facilities and barracks across police lines,” he said.Emphasising strengthened policing capabilities, Yogi said that modern infrastructure has ensured that police stations are no longerunder-equipped. “There was a time when lack of facilities made the police appear helpless, even allowing criminals to escape. Today, with adequate arrangements, criminals cannot flee easily,” he said, adding that any attempt to breach security will be firmly dealt with by alert personnel.“Today, we have ensured residential facilities for around 200 personnel in every police line, with separate arrangements for men and women. This has addressed many longstanding issues,” he said.Referring to infrastructure upgrades, he said the Gorakhnath police station serves as a model for modern policing facilities, adding that improved buildings, barracks and logistical support have strengthened policing on the ground.The CM said better infrastructure, timely recruitment and enhanced training have together created a more secure environment in the state, which in turn has contributed to establishing a model of good governance.Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sayings, he said expectations from personnel must be matched with adequate facilities.“Earlier, police stations lacked space and amenities, making it difficult to detain accused persons or manage operations effectively. Now such constraints have been addressed,” he said.Yogi said modern facilities, including barracks, offices and meeting halls, ensure that police personnel remain available at all times and are better equipped to respond to security challenges.He added that the newly inaugurated security building near the Gorakhnath temple would serve as a model, providing accommodation and operational facilities for senior police officers, including the Superintendent of Police and other officials, as well as personnel from specialised forces such as the National Security Guard.“This model will help strengthen the vision of good governance and a developed India,” he said.
